Sometimes when you're confronted to a new game concept you just go: "WOW!", not because the concept is plain original (and in the case of Mirror's Edge it is) but because the company behind the game is not particularly known to promote original ideas and go off-roads. Electronic Arts is usually more of the "we take the same successful concept/franchise and hammer it to death" kind of company. However, with Mirror's Edge developed by their subdivision EA Digital Illusion CE, they are definitely up to something fresh and new which for once is welcomed. Mirror's Edge is a First Person Perspective game (although at this point you could go for FPA "Acrobatics" or FPJ "Jumping"). Where any kind of weapon is not necessarily prohibited but barely used. The main point here is to slide, jump and do a lot of acrobatic stuff to deceive and beat the opposition. Although Mirror's Edge has been in development for quite some time and that there were already talks about it (including in our forum), I never released a news because a lot of the talk coming from EA and EA Dice was mainly marketing stuff and seriously, marketing is not the way to show gamers a concept as new as the one featured here. Screenshots, although welcomed, are barely sufficient too. But Electronic Arts released this week their first real in game footage of what Mirror's Edge will really play like so we may have a better understanding of what to expect. And this trailer, here it is: Of course, as one of our members pointed it, we all hope that Electronic Arts realizes that a real playable demo will be needed before the game release and make gamers ready to spend their hard earn money for such a gameplay. No release date has been firmly set for Mirror's Edge although it should happen if all goes well before the end of this year. If you want to know more, the official site is there.
