It's time for the fourth edition of the Extra Life gaming event that happens each year on October 15 since its inception in 2008. As every year one of our members, Marshall Lemon AKA "FangHawk", will be participating in order to raise funds for helping children in medical care. This year, Marshall set a reasonable goal of $250 which is already well on its way (and if it goes well beyond that it will be perfectly fine too; the more the better). If you'd want to help reach and hopefully break the goal, we conveniently placed a banner for the event on the left of this page that will take you to Marshall's profile.

The funds raised this year will go to the organization chosen by each participant and Marshall's choice organization this year is the SickKids Foundation.

As a gamer you can also participate in the event by signing-up with Extra Life. The only thing you need is the will to play games for 24 hours straight...

Let's make it happen!

And here we go for another set of weekly news as:

The Witcher Geralt toured the countryside in video, Duke Nukem seek a resolution to a long standing issue, Ubisoft doesn't want to choose between ATI and NVidia... they love both, Activision lost some weight but wants to eat more and Bethesda published (finally) the first screenshots for The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.

There are only two items this week. There could have been more but unfortunately someone from the gaming industry expressed an opinion in an interview opinion that I think needed a better and proper answer than the bunch of bitter comments about it I've seen posted on the web this week. It took me more time than I thought to voice my own feelings about the issue but I think that the matter in itself deserves to be discussed because it concerns the whole gaming industry, publishers, developers and gamers alike.

So this was a week during which:

Bioware announced the general demo for Dragon Age 2 and Josh Olin (Treyarch community manager) expressed his views about what is the true danger to the gaming industry.

Another relatively poor week on the PC gaming front that has only been saved by the release of Dead Space 2, the first "real" game available for the PC platform in this beginning of the year 2011 after the real desert that was the end of last year. Despair not, things should definitely improve from now on on the PC front. with a pack of releases to come. PC games are like wines; 2011 should be a relatively good year... if nothing gets delayed and lives up to gamers expectations (for some of them that will be a real challenge). Potential gems to come include: Dragon Age 2, The Witcher 2, F.E.A.R. 3, Deus Ex: Revolutions, Duke Nukem Forever and Mass Effect 3 among other things and possibly in that order. Yeah it's the year of series (well, except for DNF that is just a zombie, THE zombie of gaming; 12 years in the making and it died several times during the pregnancy always to be reborn again. They should turn that into a future game: DNF -- The Making).

But without anticipating -- and mindlessly derailing -- too much let's go back to this week, during which:

Electronic Arts blew my mind -- not necessarily in a good way, Cerberus reveals Bioware intentions for this year (not that these intentions weren't already known for the most part) and Bethesda had almost nothing to say -- as usual -- but made a point to say it anyway.

Following news this week was a pain in the ass, let me tell you. 3DS, 3DS, 3DS... that was about the only thing discussed. The marketing division of Nintendo really outdone themselves this time. Finding interesting bits of info about our dear PC games among the whole Nintendo console circus was a bit of a challenge. Nevertheless, there were some interesting items, especially one that concluded the week.

So without further discussion, here's a week during which:

A dude named Duke is back maybe this time Forever (?), Deus Ex: Human Revolution experience some communication issue, Arkane studio is patching a pretty old game and I was really fed up to hear about the 3DS!
