The developer Iron Lore Entertainment (behind the all-in-all quite interesting -- even though a little buggy -- hack & slash /RPG Titan Quest and its expansion Immortal Throne) announced on the company web site Wednesday that they retire from game development having been unable to secure the funding for their next project. The announcement happens about two weeks after they finished working on the Warhammer 40.000: Dawn Of War expansion Soulstorm which is scheduled to be released early March.

It seems definitely a good day for acquisition topics. The CEO of Electronic Arts John Riccitiello wants to acquire Take-Two (publisher of the Grand Theft Auto series, Bioshock, Jade Empire and even The Elders Scroll IV: Oblivion and its expansions among other things like Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners Of The Earth) and he wants the world to know about that. Hell, he even put online an entire website dedicated to this sole purpose that one can find there. Roughly the whole site can be summed up with one sentence "OK, here's our final offer and you'd better take it."

Look at that. Intel goes one step further into the gaming arena as they bought the very small developer Offset Software. When I say "small" I really mean it. 3 years ago the guys were only 3 in the team. Nevertheless they went on developing a game engine to begin working on Project Offset which is a working title for a game that at least on the paper is intriguing with ideas presenting some interest (you can read more about that on this page). It's hard to say nevertheless what kind of game it will be exactly. Something about it reminds me of Dark Messiah Of Might And Magic, but I'm not quite sure.

Well they don't really want you to know but when you are a company on the stock exchange you're forced to divulge financial information once in a while and let say that Ubisoft seems to be doing pretty well (much more than Eidos in any case). With a financial result of €450 millions (US$652 millions) for the third quarter of the current financial year they score an increase of 44.4% compared to the same period last year. They even managed to outstripped their own prevision from last December that was of €410 millions. And they go on telling that this excellent result is due to no small part to outstanding sales of Assassin's Creed on both the PS3 and Xbox 360 platforms which was the best selling game in Europe and 2nd best selling game in the US for the PS3 and 2nd and 3rd for the Xbox 360. Their new gaming franchise Imagine is quoted as co-responsible.
