Some time ago, we relayed a weird rumor about the configuration that will be needed to run the PC version of the highly acclaimed title Assassin's Creed from Ubisoft. Unfortunately, this rumor in particular appears now to be valid in some way although it mixed up the RAM specs for XP and Vista. Ubisoft just released in their German forum an official config requirement for Assassin's creed and it's amusing (or creepy, it depends on your mood) enough to read.

And now here are finally the highly expected official system specs:

Supported OS: Windows® XP/Windows Vista® (only)
Processor: Dual Core processor 2.6 GHz Intel® Pentium® D or AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 3800+ (Intel Core® 2 duo 2,2 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ or more better recommended)
RAM: 1 GB Windows Xp/2 GB Windows Vista
Video Card: 256 MT DirectX® 10.0-compliant video card or DirectX 9.0-compliant card with Shader Model 3,0 or more higher *
Sound Card: DirectX 9,0 or 10.0-compliant sound card (5,1 sound card recommended)
DirectX version: DirectX 9,0 or10.0 LIBRARies (included on disk)
DVD-ROM: DVD-ROM dual layer drive
Hard drive space: 8 GB
Peripherals Supported: Keyboard, mouse, optional gamepad (Xbox 360® gamepad for Windows recommended)

Supported video Cards at time of release
ATI® RADEON® X1600*/1650*-1950/HD of 2000/3000 series
NVIDIA GeForce® 6800*/7/8/9 of series

*PCI express only

Keep in mind that the config above is really for minimal gameplay. You need to add more figure (i.e.: 2GB RAM for XP and 3GB RAM for Vista) to obtain the recommended specs.

So in a few words... The year is still new and yet we already found the first title able to beat the Hell out of the heavy weight Crysis when it comes to minimal requirements. Isn't that sweet?

These official requirements also come with a press release from Ubisoft stating that the PC version of Assassin's Creed will be on shelves by the end of March. And the press release to add that the said PC version is going to be a director's cut with additional features compared to the consoles versions (like for example 4 brand new type of investigations -- whatever those are, I didn't play the game on console). With the required specs... it'd better be good.
